What to Expect at Kite Puerto Rico
Kite Puerto Rico is the only kiteboarding center in Puerto Rico with a full-service facility accessible to the public for lessons and riding.
Our instructors follow teaching standards set by the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) and share a true passion for the sport. We place a heavy emphasis on safety, progression, and creating an unforgettable experience on the water.
All lessons are private with certified instructors and include premium equipment. Lessons typically consist of three hours per day and are customized to each student's individual level and progression goals.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced rider looking to improve your skills, our goal is to help every student become a safe and independent kiteboarder.

Beginner Kiteboarding Progression
Lesson 1 — Discovery
“Into The Wind”
- Learn about the wind, gear setup and basic safety
- Fly a kite for the first time (woohoo!) with your instructor and get the hang of basic navigation on land
- Learn how to launch and land your kite with the assistance of a fellow kiter
- Have full control of your kite with two hands and with one hand
- Activate your safety system and self-rescue
- Start Your Kite Journey
Lesson 2 — Intermediate
“Drift & Power”
- Learn to control your kite on the water
- Different body dragging methods that will teach you how to get back safely to shore or recover your board
- Create power with your kite (watch out, addiction alert!)
- Body drag with your board
- First water start
- Continue Your Progress
Lesson 3 — Independent
“Chasing Wind”
- Practice water starts on both sides
- Control riding speed through edging
- Practice controlled stops
- Improve overall board control and confidence
Lesson 4 — Advanced
“The Horizon”
- Practice riding in all directions including upwind
- Changing directions without stopping
- Continue progressing toward independent riding
- Purchase your gear, continue your progression and begin your journey as an independent rider.
*The timeline for the above beginner course is an estimate. It will depend on your personal and unique skill set for exactly how long it will take to become an independent kiter. We typically gauge 9–12 hours as an average time investment to become an independent rider.

No problem. Students can complete any level and continue progressing during future lessons or future trips. We will certify your progression level so you can continue where you left off.
What if I’ve done this before?
That’s great news. After a quick evaluation of your current skill level, our instructors can help refresh essential skills and continue your progression safely and efficiently.
